1. Grieve that job, it ok to be mad, sad and angry especially when you played no part in the lost of that job. There are a lot of folks who are now unemployed due to the state of this country’s economy. Some of us feel like we lost of part of ourselves a ideal position, piece of the rock or their place as the breadwinner. To each its own but to survive this economy it’s going to take a lot of help. There is no job around the corner we are going to have to walk a few blocks or even miles. After months of displacement and here are some tips to surviving the death of a job.
2. Deal with the lost of that job realistically as possible, take steps to process your thoughts fort the future and occupy your time well.
3. Sometimes we treat a job loss as a little time off an unplanned vacation and before we know it unemployment is finish and the real world starts to come in.
4. From the day you are unemployed you should be planning on starting a new future. Upgrade yourself if this is something you need to do. The work force is changing everyday with technology leading the way. What may have been useful at your last job may be obsolete at your next job. Take any training that is related to your job field to make sure you are ready for a new environment.
5. If you have been thinking about going back to school or college start the process go in the evening or on line so it doesn’t interrupt your job hunting. Your new income may make you eligible for some grants or reduce your fees for college.
6. A finance being a great part of one’s sanity has to be put in the best order possible. Believe me this is not an easy task. But you must prioritize and find a way to be humble when seeking help.
7. Frustration when unemployed is the worst part for me your control in some matters are very limited, but you must have a plan and stick with it long term.
8. For those of us who have other people depended upon us a lot of the time our frustration is sometime thrush upon them because they aren’t sympathy enough or they don’t understand. They don’t understand the emotional part of the lost of a job or financial independence. They understand there is no money but not all the other important parts because you always took care of those things.
9. Credit said to be the threshold of every household is easily lost during unemployment but can be worked on if you look into it as soon as you are unemployed. Contact each company let them know you are unemployed and see if the will lower your payments. Some banks like WAMU will reduce interest to help you during this time but keep in mind they will also stop you from incurring anymore dept on that credit card,
10. Some banks or the people who work for them are not helpful, I called Bank of American and asked for help and they didn’t reduce my bill when it would have be most helpful. They stopped me from using the card but I continue to pay the card for almost a year before I could no longer pay it. Then a Representative called and apologizes and offers me 10 cent on a dollar if I paid dept in full. Another offer was 6 months payment and dept paid and 6 months no interest but it was too little too late. If you ask for help and they refuse put it in writing and speak to someone over their homes. In this economy credit card company want their money as long as you make attempts to pay them they will make attempt to work with you.
11. Beware collection agencies are not your friends their job is to collect a dept. There introduction speaks for itself never accept a payment plan you can’t afford. You are in control of how much you want to pay right from the beginning. Don’t allow them to make you angry or gave information you don’t want to give. Collection agents profit off your dept it is in their best interest to get the most they can get from you. Long term dept is not in there best interest. Never pay full amount dept. You dept can be settled for 25% off and up of the dept, after all most of the dept is the high interest you have been paying. For people who pay child support directly taken out of their checks collection agencies can’t take any more money out of your check. Check your local state laws I live in New York.
12. Depression which is a leading factor in the lost of job, some say it can take up to 5 years to get over losing a job. Don’t think because you may have hated that job for several years but just went because you had to, that depression won’t claim you. You would be surprise how we form relationships and get use to coming and going everyday the same place, when routine stops what is next. Over 12 years ago my husband lost his job it took him 3 years to get another one. But to this day he has never stopped being angry over what he lost during that time or the pay cut he had to endure over the years. This was one of my reasons for going back to school when I lost my job. The same salary I was getting without an education they now want Bachelor Degree or a Masters Degree. Having to focus on school does take some of the sting out of being home. But this Christmas Holidays has been depressing not because of the lack of fund but the overwhelming affect of the economy and the many people who are doing worse than I am. This brought on my need to share on this blog. I want to hear your screams your cries of pain about the unfair economic CRASH left to us by the rich not the poor. Share points for getting a job, bad interviews and bad day you don't want to take out on your family. In my search of the web I have found job site resumes etc but no voice for the unemployed.
